Sigma has recently announced yet another 46-megapixel camera called the DP3 Merrill Compact digital camera. If you’ve been following all of Sigma’s cameras for the past few months, then chances are you already know about the two previous Merrill cameras: the DP1 and DP2.
Yes, the DP3 comes with the same resolution as that of its two older siblings. However, the DP3 will carry a 50mm f2.8 lens, which is similar to a 75mm on a 35mm DSLR camera.
The DP3 features a Foveon X3 direct image sensor for giving images a 3D feel. Its three-layer Responsive Ultimate Engine 2 provides processing speed improvements and quality images. The camera is reportedly capable of focusing a minimum distance of 8.9-inches and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3 for shooting macro.
Images taken by the DP3 are stored as RAW+JPEG format and comes with a special software to process RAW data.
Sigma is launching the DP3 Merrill Compact camera this March. The camera is already available for pre-order at $999. Although, it’s interesting to note that the camera has originally a MSRP of $1400. The lowered price tag is probably for pre-order period only.
